How Windsor Tips Work on The Tipster League
Every tipster on The Tipster League is ranked by all-time results across all UK and Irish racecourses in our league standings. For each race on the Windsor card, the tip shown comes from the highest-ranked tipster who has tipped in that race. Tips can update through the morning as more selections come in, but all selections are locked in at 12:00 BST.

A strong ranking reflects past results, not future outcomes, so always do your own research before placing a bet.
Windsor Racecourse
Windsor sits on 165 acres on the banks of the River Thames in Berkshire, with views across to Windsor Castle. Racing here dates back to 1866, and the course is the only figure-of-eight flat track in Britain — a distinctive layout that sets it apart from every other venue on the circuit. The track is flat throughout and sharp in character, with tight bends that suit nimble, well-balanced horses rather than long-striding gallopers.
The full circuit is approximately twelve and a half furlongs. Races up to about a mile and three furlongs are run right-handed, using one loop of the figure-of-eight. The home straight is around five furlongs, giving runners a fair run to the line despite the sharp turns earlier in the race. Sprint races over five and six furlongs use the straight course. The six-furlong start is on a chute that feeds into the top of the home straight, so the race is run almost entirely straight.
Windsor stages around 26 to 27 flat fixtures between April and October, all on turf. The course is a popular summer evening venue — 13 consecutive Monday evening meetings are a signature feature that regularly draws large crowds. Windsor staged both flat and National Hunt racing until 1998, when the jumps course was abandoned. National Hunt racing returned in December 2024, and winter jump meetings — including the Berkshire Winter Million — now extend the racing calendar into winter. Key Races at Windsor
The Winter Hill Stakes is Windsor’s most prestigious race — a Group 3 contest over a mile and two furlongs, run on the last Saturday of August. Annus Mirabilis won the race three years running (1996–1998) and Al Kazeem took it in 2014 after winning the Eclipse and the Prince of Wales’s Stakes. The race was promoted from Listed status in 1995.
The supporting programme includes the Royal Windsor Stakes (Listed, approximately one mile, May) and the Leisure Stakes (Listed, six furlongs, late May or early June). The Leisure Stakes often serves as a stepping stone for sprinters being aimed at Royal Ascot — The Tin Man used it twice as part of his Royal Ascot preparation. For tips at Ascot, that course page covers the summer’s biggest flat meeting. The August Stakes, a Listed race over a mile and three furlongs, completes the pattern-race programme on Winter Hill day.
Windsor’s Monday evening cards through the summer may not carry Group or Listed status, but they are competitive handicaps that attract good-quality fields and are a staple of the summer racing calendar. Monday Night Racing has been a fixture at Windsor since the 1960s, and the 13 consecutive Monday evening meetings are among the best-attended midweek fixtures in the south of England.
What to Look for When Betting at Windsor
The figure-of-eight layout is the defining feature. The tight bends and sharp turns reward horses that race handily and respond quickly — front-runners and prominent racers have an edge over closers who need time and space to wind up a challenge. The evening meetings in particular tend to produce competitive, large-field handicaps where pace and position matter more than in smaller, classier fields. Form from bigger, galloping tracks does not always transfer well to Windsor, and vice versa — a course specialist here may not reproduce the same form at a venue like Newbury or Ascot.
The draw matters in sprints. Over six furlongs, horses drawn high — towards the far side — hold a slight advantage, which becomes more pronounced when the ground is soft. Over five furlongs on the straight course, the bias is less clear-cut. At a mile and beyond, the draw has little impact and pace is the dominant factor.
