How Fakenham Tips Work on The Tipster League
Every tipster on The Tipster League is ranked by all-time profit across all UK and Irish racecourses in our top horse racing tipsters league table. For each race on the Fakenham card, the tip shown comes from the highest-ranked tipster who has tipped in that race. Tips can update through the morning as more selections come in, but everything locks at 12:00 BST.
What sets The Tipster League apart is that every selection is recorded on each tipster's public profile — wins, losses, and everything in between. The "Top Tipsters at Fakenham" section on this page breaks that down further, showing how each tipster has performed at this course specifically.
A strong ranking reflects past results, not future outcomes, so always do your own research before placing a bet.
Fakenham Racecourse
Fakenham is a jumps-only course on the southern edge of the market town of Fakenham in Norfolk. The left-handed track is almost square in shape and roughly a mile in circumference, making it one of the tightest National Hunt circuits in the country. The ground was chosen for its lighter soil, which drains well — the going rarely turns heavy here, even through winter.
The chase course has six fences per circuit, with the open ditch positioned as the penultimate obstacle. The hurdle course sits inside the chase track. Sharp bends on all four corners keep the field turning throughout, and the run-in is just 250 yards. This is a speed-and-agility track, not a test of stamina — horses that need time and space to build momentum will struggle to get competitive from off the pace.
Racing was first staged here on Easter Monday 1905, after the West Norfolk Hunt relocated from East Winch where drainage problems had plagued their meetings. The original grandstand was built in 1953 and later replaced by the Prince of Wales Stand, a £1 million development officially opened in 2002. King Charles III is the current patron. The inner course is still used for point-to-point racing by the West Norfolk Hunt.
For fixture dates and visitor information, see the official Fakenham Racecourse website.
Key Races at Fakenham
The headline event is the Fakenham Silver Cup, a Class 3 handicap hurdle over two miles run at the Spring meeting in March. It draws competitive fields from yards across East Anglia and beyond and is the feature race on the strongest card of the year.
The Easter Monday meeting is the busiest fixture on the calendar — fitting, given that Fakenham's first ever race day was an Easter Monday in 1905. It draws the biggest crowds of any meeting and has a family atmosphere that extends beyond the racing.
Fakenham stages twelve National Hunt meetings a year, running from October through to May or early June. Trainers often use the smaller fields and straightforward layout to give novice hurdlers and chasers early experience — it is a popular ground for young jumpers taking their first steps over obstacles. The course has produced its share of specialists too. Cool Roxy won eleven times here — a racecourse record — and The Cool Roxy Bar was opened in his honour in October 2015.
Course Characteristics Worth Considering
The sharp bends and short run-in put a premium on an early position in the field. Any horse not in the first two or three turning into the back straight will find it very difficult to make up the ground from there. Front-runners and prominent racers have a clear edge at Fakenham, and hold-up horses rarely get the chance to use a late turn of foot on this layout.
Over fences, the obstacles are not especially imposing but six per circuit on a tight track means they come up quickly. A tired or careless jumper gets found out, particularly through the closing stages. Over hurdles, the test is more about handling the bends at racing pace than the flights themselves — speed between the obstacles matters more here than jumping technique.
The well-drained soil means Fakenham holds up better than most rural courses through winter. The going is rarely heavy, which favours nippy, quick-jumping types over the grinding stayers that thrive at more demanding tracks. Horses making the switch from flat racing can handle the speed demands here — Fakenham is one of the sharper National Hunt tracks in the country.
The National Hunt statistics on this page break down the leading jockeys, trainers, and owners at Fakenham. The same yards and riders tend to appear at the top season after season, so those numbers are worth studying before looking at the card. Our Lucky 15 horse racing tips page brings together four-horse combination bets from across the day's racing, while today's racing tips covers every UK and Irish meeting.
